Blue economy

Asian faceClimate change, biodiversity and equitable wealth repartition are vital challenges that need to be addressed urgently with sound and innovative solutions. Blue economy aims at developing innovative solutions and approaches to ensure that seeks to protect marine and freshwater environments while using them in a sustainable manner for development. ILP-CoP works with researchers and specialists from ISMER, a Quebec Marine Research Institute (University of Quebec in Rimouski – UQAR), to propose capacity building programs and co-create with national partners, Blue economy oriented projects and initiatives that contribute to the development and inequality reduction in coastal regions. Such activities include:

 

What we do :

 

  • Support young entrepreneurs in the development of business model supported by blue economy principles,

  • Develop capacities of coastal regions decision makers in the design, planning and implementation of projects aiming at sustainable exploitation of marine resources,

  • Support the co-creation of regional development plans taking into consideration the reduction of inequalities, the protection of marine, coastal and freshwater ecosystems,

  • Assessment of potential Blue economy development and identification of projects to support regional development,

  • Organize awareness raising activities (workshops, conferences, study tours,…) to foster commitment to development activities aligned to green economy approaches and values.

Canada – UQAR
Preparation and Organization of an International Conference on “The Relationship between Regional Development and Blue Economy”

Africa – AGRA
Mid-Term Review for the Farmer Organizations Support Centre in Africa (FOSCA). The assessment focused on analysing the alignment of current results and objectives with AGRA overall strategy. A total of 16 projects (one regional) in 10 countries (English, French and Portuguese speaking) were assessed.

World – ISMER
Organisation of tailored study tours and workshops to analyse the implementation of a coastal/marine resources exploitation centered Regional Development Plan in Northern Quebec based on Blue Economy principles
